Context

Often, you will be working with a piece of information like a MAC address and need additional information, like the IP address, hostname or function of the corresponding device.

The nzyme Context Engine allows to manually or transparently enrich data with additional data that will be displayed across the web interface.

The difference between Context and Assets

Context and Assets are similar concepts on a high level, work together closely, but have an important difference:

Context can be applied to any entity, no matter if it has been observed or not. For example, you can create context for a MAC address that has not been observed in your network so far. Assets are enriched from context, but will only exist after they have been observed.

For example, you could pre-fill context of MAC addresses with asset data before that asset is ever seen. Once the asset appears, the context is applied and displayed.

Future development of Nzyme will make more use of Context and further delineate between the two concepts.

Adding manual context

You can add manual context by selecting the context type under the Context menu item in your sidebar. Transparently created context can be manually enriched by editing it.

Required Permissions

All users can view all types of context.

All super administrators, organization administrators as well as tenant users with the following permissions can create, edit and delete context:
